Company Background

General packaging (M) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in year 1959 which formerly known as Tar Nam Tin Factory Sdn Bhd. In year 1974, the company changes its name from Tar Nam Tin factory Sdn. Bhd to M. C. Packaging (M) Sdn Bhd.  In April 2007, Etika International Holdings Limited acquired M. C. Packaging (M) Sdn. Bhd and changes its name to General Packaging Sdn. Bhd. The companies located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and Pekan Nanas, Johor in Malaysia. Now, the company built a new factory under construction at Meru, Klang.
General Packaging supplies its product to food-related business customers, particularly condensed milk manufacturers as well as non-food business customers. The main products that offered by the company are Aerosol cans and Sweetened Condensed Milk (SCM) cans. Aerosol cans are used to pack pesticide, spray paint, grease, lubricants, wood lacquer, air freshener, air neutralizer and medicine. General Packaging supply aerosol cans in several sizes to local and export markets such as Australia. General Packaging supplies the SCM cans with the inch of 300x303, 300x400 & 401 x 405. SCM cans are coated with either clear lacquer or with higher tin coating. The changes of lifestyle lead the consumer towards convenient products. For this, General Packaging not only offered normal end cans but also supplies Full Aperture End (FAE) to meet the consumer needs.
General Packaging has 30 staffs and 160 machine operators. 80 of the employees are from foreign country and 80 of them are from local which follow the acts that set by the government (the amount of the foreign employees and local employees should be equal). The foreign employees are mainly come from three countries which are Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. All of the Bangladesh’s workers are employed under the agencies while the Nepal and Myanmar’s workers are employed by the company itself.
The sales volume of the company can divide into 2 divisions. The first division is SCM cans which stated the sales of approximately 17million cans per month while the second division is aerosol cans which stated the sales of approximately 500000 cans per month. The sales of aerosol cans can reach over one million cans per month when there are a lot of orders from Australia.
 Kian Joo Group is the market leader in metal industries. It occupied around 70% of the market shares. Kian Joo Group distributes all kinds of things that made from metals while the other small company only focus in particular metal’s production. The current position of the General Packaging in the share market is around 4%.

       The current strategies that applied by General Packaging Sdn Bhd are as follows:
Ø  Reduce price and cost by increasing productivity and maintaining operational cost efficiency.
Ø  Maintain mutual beneficial relationship with suppliers to obtain raw material supply consistency.
Ø  Upgrade machines facility to increase its capacity and to achieve higher utilization.
Ø  Increase product variety to aim for different market segment to satisfy customer needs.
Ø  Expansion of the business by venturing into new plant located in Meru .
